If diving is new to
you, you may have many questions.
Here's our list of "Frequently Asked
Questions": |
| |
|
|
|
|
| |
Q |
How long can you stay under the water with one tank of
oxygen? |
|
| |
A |
First, scuba divers
breathe compressed AIR, not oxygen. Oxygen will
become toxic at certain depths. How long a diver
can stay down depends on several factors:
temperature, anxiety of diver, excitement, etc.
with depth and activity being the greatest
factors. You are taught
in class how to monitor your air consumption to make sure
you have enough to get out of the water safely. |

Q |
How old
do I have to be to dive? |
|
| |
A |
A student must be at least 15 years old to
qualify for a full, adult certification card
(C-Card). Youngsters between 12-14 can be
certified as Junior Open-Water divers, which
means they must dive with a certified adult
diver. There is no upper age limit. |

Q |
Are there any
medical problems that will keep me from diving? |
|
| |
A |
Each student must
complete a medical history form prior to
training. This form informs instructors of
a student's medical condition, and there are
several items that would prohibit a diver of any
age from participating the activity. Some
of the more serious conditions include:
epilepsy, chronic ear infections, diabetes,
active asthma, emphysema, heart disease,
hemophilia, claustrophobia, depression, and
addictive drug or alcohol abuse. There are
other conditions which preclude scuba diving,
and some temporary conditions that could delay
dive training.

Q |
Should I purchase
equipment before I start class? |
| |
|
|
| |
A |
Reefline provides
all scuba equipment for scuba diver class.
Those items are regulators, buoyancy
compensator, tanks and weights. The
student will need a mask, snorkel, and fins, but
we furnish these on the first night of class.
This allows the diver to learn about these items
and make more informed decisions on their
purchase. If the student wants to wait a
while before they obtain their own mask, fins
and snorkel, they may rent them from Reefline.
